What is a Roleplaying Game? - A type of game in
which the participants assume the roles of fictional characters and collaboratively
create or follow stories. Participants determine the actions of their
characters based on their characterization, and the actions succeed or
fail according to a formal system of rules and guidelines. Within the
rules, players can improvise freely; their choices shape the direction
and outcome of the games. A role-playing game rarely has winners or losers. That makes role-playing games fundamentally different from board games, card games, sports and most other types of games. What is Rifts? - Sometime in Earth's future, after a Golden
Age of peace and technological advancement, the face of the planet is
decimated by the return of magic and the Coming of the Rifts. Cities
fall, civilization collapses, billions of people perish, and portals
to a thousand alien worlds open across the face of the planet. What Rifts products do we carry? - We carry a full line of Rifts
products, including the sub-setting books of Chaos Earth and Palladium
Fantasy. What do I need to play? - Each player in a game needs access to the core rules, presented in the Rifts core book, and a set of dice. One person, the DM, needs access to a selection of additional books (these books provide the "behind the scenes" rules, such as enemies and quests). Players will also need a set of dice, a pad of paper, a pen or pencil, and imagination. What kind of dice do I need? - You need a D20 dice set, which consists of a D4 (abrreviated for a four-sided die), D6, D8, D10, D% (used with the D10 to roll a percentage), D12, and D20. These dice are available individually or as sets. These dice can be made out of many materials, from simple plastic to such exotic things as bone, or even meteorites! This is what a set of dice looks like.
